That hourly rate is worked out from how long people really took, not from the researcher’s guess. So a study that pays a fixed reward pays less per hour when it runs long. Prolific gives its own example. A study meant to pay £6 an hour ends up paying £3 an hour when people take twice as long.
Read that again. The floor is real. It is applied after the fact though, using the middle time of everyone who did the study. A slow reader earns less per hour than the floor suggests.
If a study screens you out part way through, the newer screener pays a small guaranteed amount, $0.14. You keep pay for the screening questions you answered, and it does not hurt your account.
Money reaches your balance when the researcher approves your work, or automatically after 22 days.
Prolific does not publish what people actually earn in a week or a month. So we do not print a figure. That floor is a rule for researchers, not a wage anyone reports taking home.

Skip it if you have no PayPal account, because that is the only way it pays.
Skip it if you want steady hours. Some days there are no studies you are eligible for.
You may not have a first week. The waitlist comes first. What follows starts on the day you are let in.
Day 1. Finish every verification step before you look at studies. Unverified accounts cannot take them.
Day 2. Take two short studies. Time yourself with a clock, not a guess.
Day 3. Compare what you were paid to the time you spent. This is where the median-time rule shows up in your own numbers.
Day 4. Take one longer study. See whether the pay per hour holds up when the task is harder.
Day 5. Add it up. Your real rate is total pay divided by total time, including studies that screened you out.
One thing to expect: your first four cash-outs each wait 72 hours. After the fourth, transfers to PayPal are instant.
You need three things. A computer or tablet with a web browser. A PayPal account in your own name. A photo ID for the identity check.
None of that costs anything if you already have it.
